Lizards and Other Things

They are rebuilding our balcony and stairs so we had to bring in all of our stuff that was occupying that space. Last week I noticed a lizard walking toward our dining room. He scurried away before I could get close. The next day I saw him in Blue's crate. And the next day I saw him hanging out on our bikes (which are in the dining room at the moment) with his friend. For over a week they have been living on our bikes. During the day they sit up on the handle bar in the sunshine. I like lizards, but it creeped me out a little knowing that they were roaming the house. It seems as though they are staying right on the bikes, so I guess I'll let them live out their lives there.

Perhaps he is longing for the day when he can be outside again.

Last week I had a dentist appointment and teeth cleaning (no cavities!). I brought Cannon with me even though it was during his nap time. They let him watch cartoons while I met with the dentist, but he started to get a little fussy when I was having me teeth cleaned. He started to lay down on the floor so the front desk lady brought him a pillow and blanket and made a little bed for him. He actually fell asleep! I wish I had my camera because that was such a rare moment! The hygienist let me take a couple toys home for him.

Here he is with his vampire teeth!

While we were in Alabama, Cannon slept in a regular bed. He did really well and with little problems. Our first night back home he climbed right out of his crib so we took the side off. We tried this a year ago and it was a horrible parenting mistake!

The first few nights he did really well. Once he woke up in the middle of the night and came into our room, but he went right back to sleep when I tucked him back in. Well, the rest of the nights have been a struggle! I considered putting the side back on, thinking maybe he still wasn't ready, but everything else about it I like. His naps have been awesome. At 12:15 or 12:30 I put him to bed. I hear him playing for about 10 or 15 minutes (sometimes in his bathroom), but I just let him be and he always gets in his bed when he is tired and will sleep for an hour or two. I love that! But at night he is so wound up! We have been trying different relaxation techniques before bed so that he has time to wind down and relax, but he still ends up playing FOREVER. And he keeps coming downstairs. I thought that maybe he doesn't need a nap anymore, but on the days I keep him awake he ends up falling asleep on the couch around 3:00 or 4:00 which is a much worse situation! Last night was the worst of all. He didn't fall asleep until after 10pm (he did stay in his room) and then he woke up at 3am and then for good at 6:30am. He hasn't been feeling well this week (croup again!) and I think that may make a difference. Plus his asthma doctor had me give him an oral steroid which does make him really hyper and cranky. I only gave him that medicine twice. The time change hasn't helped either. Hopefully this next week will be better when things are more normal! We got him a new night light today, which was Ryan's suggestion.

He really does enjoy having a "bed."

Oh those lizards are scary!!! So funny they stay on the bikes.

And the story about Cannon falling asleep at the dentist is SO cute!

As for the bed thing, Ryan went through the same thing. It wasn't long though. Probably about a three week transition. It seemed like the first few days I didn't give him a nap were really hard, but then he got used to it. Sometimes if he watches a movie after 3 he will fall asleep and then stay up until 11 or so. Have you tried an earlier bed time? My friend stopped naps and started bed time at 6 or 6:30. Her son slept until 8 the next morning. It sounds like he knows when he is tired, like at nap time, so I would just keep trying the no nap thing. I actually love it! It gives me so much more freedom. :)

oh my goodness, look at cannon's huge smile. Clay and Cannon are becoming big boys together! Sleep is such a pain. I am sure Cannon will get his body in a rhythm soon. Daylight saving and time changes are a big pain.

Hmmm. sounds like Cole when he started getting ready to give up the naps. Too cranky to go without one but too awake at night to go to sleep. I had to start waking him after half hour or so or go a few nights of early bedtimes. Cannon is almost 3....Cole gave up naps with one here or there almost right at his birthday. Love that little boy and was so sad I wasn't able to see him. Seriously can't believe you let lizards in your house...ew...just remember lizard poop on the windowsills at mom's house.
