Baby Shower

I had my baby shower last Saturday and it was so much fun! Thanks to everyone who helped out and for everyone who was able to come. I couldn't believe how much stuff Cannon got and I really appreciate everyone's generosity.

Blue was worn out from all the festivities!

Here's all four grandkids on the Rees side.

32 week check-up

Yesterday I had my 32 week appointment. I have lost 2 pounds, so my total weight gain is down to 26 pounds. But my belly is measuring normal. They weren't too concerned and it is probably because of the new diet I am on. My nutritionist wants me to add extra calories in the form of bacon, sour cream, whole milk yogurt, butter, salad dressing etc. Because this is a short-term diet, they aren't worried about my cholesterol. I just can't wait to eat normal again! I'm starting to miss ice cream.

Yes, we are crazy!

I'll just say it, we got a puppy! This was a spur of the moment decision that went against everything Ryan and I had agreed upon. Ryan and I have always wanted to get a dog, but one day in the future. We had decided to wait until the baby was bigger. Over the last couple of months, we have day dreamed about coming home to a cute little puppy that would cuddle with us while we watched TV. Last week a student in Ryan's class brought a puppy to school with her because her parents didn't know that she had one. Well, her parents found out and she had to give it up. She asked Ryan if he wanted the puppy and he called me for permission. He caught me during a vulnerable time and I said yes. When he went to get the puppy, her parents had already given her away, so Ryan got the sister puppy. She is an 8 week-old dachshund/blue heeler mix and her name is Blue. She is a very interesting mix, but she seems to have inherited good qualities from both sides. She loves to cuddle and is very sweet. She is smart and is doing well at potty training and kennel training. Ryan is on spring break this week, so he been able to take her to the vet and work on her training. Although she is not the Bichon that we had planned on getting one day, she is still cute and loveable and I think she will be a great addition to our family. I think Ryan is still a little bit torn. He feels like a traitor for not getting a Bichon, but he loves Blue and loves her personality.

A new milestone

I hit a new milestone in my life yesterday. But before I tell the story, let me back track a bit. As some of you know I have had some difficultly with my left leg. It's not the swelling, but a problem with a muscle that causes bad pain all day and night. It is really painful to walk and stand. This has been frustrating me because I am not able to do many simple tasks. Yesterday I needed to pick up my new prescription for insulin (yes, I have to take insulin now) and I needed some groceries too. I was dreading the walk from the car to the pharmacy and I knew it would be physically impossible to get the groceries too. But I decided to swallow my pride and try something new. When I walked inside I asked the old man, who hands out the carts, "How do I get one of those?" I pointed to the motorized carts. He said, "All you have to do is ask." I have to admit that I was kind of excited! I put my purse in the basket and zoomed off at 1 mile an hour, trying to hide the smile on my face. Despite my physical enjoyment of driving through the grocery store, I still felt foolish. At one point I saw Joy Park. Mortified that someone I know had seen me, I tried to justify myself. She told me that she did the same thing when she was pregnant and that made me feel less like a dork. Throughout my journey I got a lot of looks and glances even from an old lady who, despite being on oxygen, was able to push her own cart. I did all that I could to not draw attention to myself. When it was time to check-out, the lady walked out with me to my car. I didn't want the extra help, but was grateful that I was able to drive this thing out to my car instead of walking. The lady asked me if I was okay to drive. Of course I was! I think she thought I was supposed to be on bedrest and that I was defying the doctor's orders or something.

On Monday I had another ultrasound. Starting at 34 weeks I will get to have one every week. This time I brought my sister, Shae, with me. Cannon is so much bigger than the last ultrasound, obviously. They want to monitor him to make sure he doesn't get too big. Like every ultrasound so far, he was uncooperative. All he wanted to do was sleep and he made sure that we did not see his face. But he does have hair on his head! We saw a foot and an ear, but mostly he was happy to show us his boy parts, which he displayed proudly! That was my only picture and I gave that one to Ryan. Maybe next time we will be able to see his face. Overall he looks perfect! They estimated that he is about 3lbs 12oz, not too big and not too small.

30 week visit

I had my 30 week appointment yesterday. My belly was back to measuring normal. I haven't gained any weight since my last appointment two weeks ago, but she said that was okay and maybe due to the new diet I have been on. I told her about my swelling leg and how painful it has been. She didn't have any good suggestions. But because of the diabetes I get to have an ultrasound every month, so I am going on Monday. They want to keep a close eye on Cannon's growth to make sure he doesn't get too big. I'm grateful for that.

That's not my wife's leg

Since Friday I have had swelling in my left leg. This is the first time I've had swelling. I was able to rest it a lot over the weekend, but once I started walking around more the bigger it became. Ryan has listened to my complaining this weekend, but I didn't show my leg to him until yesterday. I had him compare my legs and it was obvious which one was the problem one. We were watching TV on the couch and he kept staring at my leg. Finally he burst out laughing and I told him not to look at my leg anymore. He said to me, "That's not my wife's leg! That's not your leg!" We had a good laugh over it!

On Tuesday I met with the endocrinologist and the nutritionist. I get to check my blood four times a day and I am on a special low carb plan. At the end of the week I email my doctor the record of my blood sugar counts as well as a log of my carb intake at each meal and my morning ketones. They review it to make sure it's okay. It takes a lot of planning and charting, but it is worth it. If my blood sugar can be controlled by my diet then I won't have to take insulin. When I started yesterday, my blood sugar was still high. Today my breakfast and lunch counts were slightly under the goal count, but after dinner I had a normal count! So hopefully it is starting to work! I have also realized how blessed I am to have such a good insurance plan. For all the specialists I have seen and all the prescriptions I have filled, I have paid less than $60 for everything! I also really like how my OB, endocrinologist, and nutritionist all communicate and work together. It feels nice to have so many people keeping a close watch on me and the baby.

30 Weeks

Last night we went and saw Bill Cosby, which was so funny! Here is an updated picture of me for everyone who is asking. The one in the red was from last night and the one in the gray is from today.
